The roots of Thanksgiving go deep into American history to the very first settlers from England who came to the shores of America in 1620.
More than half of the settlers were not able to survive the harsh winter. The survivors founded a colony and with the help of local Indians began to agriculture. A rich harvest became a reward for their efforts. The first governor of the colonists offered to spend a day bringing gratitude to the Lord. The leader and another 90 Indians of the tribe, which has helped the colonists to survive were invited to the feast. This meal, shared with the Indians, was the first celebration of Thanksgiving Day. Subsequently, Thanksgiving was celebrated as a national holiday every fourth Thursday of November.
